How therapy helps: three simple steps
1. You start to understand yourself.
Not in a vague way. The specific reasons you react the way you do, get stuck where you get stuck, and end up back in the same place. Once you can see it clearly, it stops running the show.
2. The patterns loosen.
The thing you keep doing, the argument you keep having, the feeling you keep outrunning. We work out where it comes from and how to do it differently, so it has less grip on your life.
3. You don't have to carry it alone.
For the length of a session, someone is genuinely paying attention to you, with no agenda except helping you make sense of things. For a lot of people that's the first time in years.
